To the indestructible you: Can the ideal state of spiritual perfection replace the experience of the physical body?
I see the man in black as the Creator, who is connected to everything in the world and can sense what is happening in the world. When he found out that there was a “door-knocker” in the world, he created the main character – a ball.
Knockers are souls that are not forged by experience, they have self-awareness and believe that souls are trapped in the physical body; they should be liberated, so that they can go to the ideal heaven, no longer trapped in the physical experience and emotions. In order to achieve this ideal, they start killing people in the human world to help free them.
This is very similar to the idea of certain cults. Humans turn to religion for help when they are experiencing unbearable pain. Many of the children whose families had non-religious parents suddenly became religious at some point in their adult lives, and a large percentage of them did so because they had suffered a great change in their lives that was difficult to face. It is this suffering that cults exploit to control people.
The main character, the ball, is a “shape-shifter” with immortality. When he strongly feels the emotions of a dying creature, he is able to become that creature after it dies. So, it first started as a stone, and then became a wolf, the wolf’s master, a four-year-old child …… from a white paper without any consciousness, with a physical body to experience different roles, slowly have a sense of self, with their own values.
The main character is very kind and can be described as a saintly mother. Because from the time it became a wolf, it kept accepting kindness, and after the death of the master it became like the master, that is a teenager who was left to take care of the elderly in the village after the clan went to explore the new world, and the clan all died, and he was still stationed in the same place. This persistence and kindness, it has inherited. It met the people who sacrificed for their families and friends, felt their emotions, and became like those people after their death.
So the protagonist is an ultimate altruist, when he knows the conspiracy of the knocker, determined that he must destroy all the knockers. For this goal, it finally exercised the ability of the Creator to link with everything in this world through its roots. It became a big tree with a root system connecting the whole world. Through its root system all over the world, it wiped out all the door knockers visible to the naked eye.
Coming to modern times many years later, he thought there had been true peace and resurrected his previously sacrificed friends, wanting everyone to live together and enjoy this peace.
But in fact, the knockers were not completely wiped out, they evolved. Once the knockers were in the form of a fist-sized ball of flesh, visible to the naked eye, and could be killed with cold weapons. In modern times, they have evolved into tiny virus-like forms. This virus invades the brains of people who have experienced major setbacks. For example, a child’s parent, often domestic abuse, in the event of such a situation, the knocker will invade the brain of the parasite, generating a new personality to bear the suffering. The more suffering, the longer the knocker occupies the body, and finally when the body owner chooses to end his life, the knocker completely invades this body and lives on with a perfect anti-high pressure personality that behaves perfectly and does not seem to have any negative emotions.
The protagonist always thought that eliminating the knocker would protect humanity, but when the knocker told him in modern times that the knocker was there to eliminate human suffering to achieve peace, the protagonist doubted himself. He has been fighting with the knockers for centuries to protect humanity, and now the knockers turn around and say they are also protecting humanity, the protagonist hesitates, and his opponent for so many years is really the same purpose as himself, in protecting humanity?
The point of difference between the protagonist and the knocker is that he has experienced the lives of many people in the flesh, and he believes that this experience, the human link, feelings, memories, smells, are very valuable. The protagonist’s memory can be taken away by the door knocker. If the memories of the person in the protagonist’s mind are taken away, the protagonist will also lose the ability to become that person, which means he forgot an important person. When he did not know the knocker’s plot, he fought with the knocker for the reason of retrieving his memories, he did not want to forget these people who shaped his personality, and it loved these people who gave him experience. And the door-knockers despise the experiences of the Anthropogenic, they believe that the soul should not experience this and should go to a perfect ideal state where pain should not exist. The protagonist relies on love to overcome pain, while the knocker wants to block pain and love to reach a perfect kingdom where there is no experience. This is a bit of the meaning of “emptiness” in a certain religion. And after relying on experience and inner cultivation, forging a strong inner world to reach the state of “empty”, and being protected from the “empty” brain is not the same. The latter is like a castle built on the beach.
The modern part is said to have been painted by the author during her pregnancy, and she feels that as a mother-to-be, she has brought in her own experiences and feelings. Is it better to let the child experience the pain and build a defense system against all kinds of pain in her own heart, or to protect that fragile nature and block all difficulties for the child?
Human experience, whether it is happy or sad, has to be experienced so that the personality can become complete. This is also a phrase that appears many times in the original film, the soul can only take shape after experiencing experiences in the physical body. The meaning of our living is not to pursue the ideal country of perfect happiness, but to experience everything that comes with being born as a human being with the humans around us.
