Cyberpunk: Edge Walker: The Story of the Future of Cyberpunk

Forget the graphics and the music. It’s brilliant

The elements of cyberpunk are also quite common, such as neon lights, semantic transformation, and super dream and so on

The only problem is the plot. First of all, let’s talk about the hero. The hero gives me the feeling that he is a pure plot tool

Let’s start with his motives. On the one hand, I can’t understand why he insisted on excessive prosthesis modification after Mann’s death. When Lucy persuaded him to stop the prosthesis modification and remove the prosthesis, he said, “Mann and my mother told me something before they died,” his mother said, “You have to climb to the top of the board,” and Mann said, “You have to live.” Those two are the only fucking words that have anything to do with what he’s doing right now. What Mann said about keeping you alive is not about turning you into a cyber-maniac… So his motivation is more to follow his fucking will, to climb to the top of the board, as evidenced by the wavering of his conversations with the board’s top brass (even nearly killing Lucy by not taking sedatives) (and even throwing the pot at Mann), so he insists that excessive prosthesis is pure for the ideal he’s fucking given him, You can’t help thinking that he doesn’t have any thought of his own

But from the conclusion, I can see that he takes Lucy very important again, and even says “realizing your dream is my dream”, which makes me speechless. First of all, Lucy’s security and his ideal are in conflict with each other. One is an old hacker who escapes from the blackboard; the other is a man who wants to climb to the top of the blackboard. Would the board really fail to identify Lucy on the way to the top? I wonder; secondly, if his dream is to realize Lucy’s dream, that is, to go to the moon, then what on earth is he doing? From the plot and the house he lives in, it is not difficult to see that he is already quite famous and rich. The residence he changes is the place where V lives after becoming famous in the game, so it can be inferred that he has a lot of savings and fame. He can totally give up the excessive semantic and high-risk tasks, which is actually a good thing for him and Lucy. In other words, it can be a win-win situation, the hero doesn’t have to become a cyber-maniac, and Lucy can also happily travel to the moon with him and even have enough money to leave Night City later

For another thing, the whole movie has his perspective of seeing Cyber manias, such as Super Dream, Mann’s mental breakdown, the Cyber manias who show y and the movie that Super Dream producer shows him. The audience can easily form the idea that “Cyber manias are scary” and “excessive reconstruction of the body will lead to mental breakdown”. However, the hero is not very afraid, all by saying “I am unique”. All right, all right, you’re unique, showing the same symptoms as Mann and refusing to take off your prosthetics, even taking on high levels of immunosuppressant to take on high-stakes missions that Rebecca told us we’re not taking, so you have to be brave, so you can afford to go to the moon? I don’t think in your current position, you can’t make that kind of money wearing lightweight implants

Therefore, the hero gives me the impression that his motivation is very confused, he does not know what he wants, and he stubbornly insists on the semantic, watching himself become a cyber-maniacal, walking on the “edge”, without his own thinking, is a tool for the plot and theme of service, the scripter wants to give him whatever plot motive, when the scripter wants romance, The hero can be “your dream is my dream” and “I’ll take you to the moon, I promise”, while the writer wants him to fight the board and he can refuse to take off his prosthetic body and take on a highly risky mission with high levels of immunosuppressant in his head

As for Lucy, I didn’t understand why she didn’t tell the hero what she was doing at first, but on second thought, she burned the brains of the top brass and indirectly killed Mann and Dario, so I didn’t dare to tell the hero. But why did he burn the brains of the top brass? There should have been other solutions, why did he burn the brains of the top brass on the spot? Because you don’t want the hero and the rest of the crew to know about the project, Why can’t the hero and the rest of the crew know? They know, so they’re more likely to be able to prevent conspiracies at the top of the board, which gives me the feeling that what Lucy is doing… At first, she killed the high level of the board impulsively, leading to the death of Dario and Mann. At the least, she can also tell a small lie: she did not burn the high level of the board’s brain, and she saw the experimental plan about the male master in the high level of the board’s brain

On the other hand, only the top management of the board they caught knew that the male protagonist was one of the product experimenters, and Lucy had made this part of data unrecoverable. Then why do we need to assassinate all the company personnel related to the plan? So Lucy’s operation is not very reasonable

Finally, let’s talk about the rhythm of the animation, the first is Qi Wei, Qi Wei is too sudden to betray, not to say that she can also betray for the company amnesty rights and money, but it is a little strange

The animation uses interspersed storyboard to say that they have been getting along for a long time, but the impression is a little awkward. In the first few minutes, Lucy is still “it’s a trouble to take care of you for training”; in the later few minutes, Lucy is “the only thing I don’t want is you to die”; while in the middle, they are mostly running when they are alone. There is a feeling of lack of center, and it would be better to insert some heart-to-heart talk. By the way, when the relationship is established, the guy says “I’ll take you to the moon, I promise”, confused motives… Pure tool man…

At the end, I would like to talk about my ideal plot direction (based on the current plot direction). In my ideal, Lucy can first tell the hero about the experimental plan of “Righteous Body King Kong”, and tell the hero that she is now wiping out some people related to the plan. When things are over, they can travel to the moon or leave the Night City (corresponding to the star ending of the game), and the hero can also agree. And remove his part of the body, the result of Lucy was caught, male master in order to save Lucy to steal the body King Kong, and knowing that the spirit may collapse also resolutely installed, and finally and the opposite plate, died in Adam’s hammer, but Lucy also saved out.

In fact, I prefer that they talk to each other, Lucy to make sure that the hero’s experimenter information will not be recovered, so that there is no need to assassinate the board staff, and finally there is no risk of being arrested, the hero can lose the prosthetic body and do some ordinary tasks to save money, and then the two of them away from the trouble place to live a happy life, isn’t that good

Speaking of, Lucy appeared in the company exposed her face and identity, and the company was not as badly hit as in the game. Can Lucy really live the rest of her life safely, or even can Lucy really take part in the ending of the moon trip
